- It offers port and logistics services to cargo and passenger vessels.
- It specializes in container handling. It currently has the capacity to move up to 5 million TEUs annually and is preparing to increase this to 6 million TEUs.
- Its maritime terminals, SPRC and Contecar, receive state-of-the-art vessels and are prepared for the arrival of the world's largest ships crossing through the recently expanded Panama Canal.
- It has the infrastructure to move Ro-Ro cargo and specializes in automobile cargo for the national and regional markets.
- It also handles project loads: heavy or oversized parts.

- According to UNCTAD, it is the best connected port in Latin America and the Greater Caribbean.
- It is the fifth largest port in Latin America by volume of cargo moved, according to ECLAC.
