1. A December packed with tourists in Cartagena
December opens the cruise peak season in Cartagena with 30 arrivals, including eight cruises that will stay overnight and 10 dates with multiple arrivals, a few with three and even four ships docked simultaneously. The month’s most active week will go from the 23rd to the 29th, with a total of 12 arrivals. With regards to the number of visitors, around 77,211 (55,412 passengers and 21,799 crew members) are expected to come.
2. January: the most dynamic month
With 35 arrivals and 116,229 visitors in total (84.214 passengers and 32.015 crew members), January posits itself as the most dynamic month of the 2024-2025 Season. This period will include six cruises staying overnight and 13 dates with multiple arrivals, including a few days with up to four ships. Additionally, there will be three maiden calls and weeks of high activity, such the 13th-19th week, with 10 cruises, and the 20th-26th week, with nine.
3. “La Preciosa”, a new experience for all tourists
All visitors are invited to check the Cartagena Cruise Terminal’s new attraction: “La Preciosa” (The Lovely Mine), an immersive audiovisual experience that will teach them about the wonders of Colombia and all the different sights they can find in the city and the terminal.
4. Gift Project in Cartagena
On the 12th of December, the Gift Project took place in Cartagena, it was a heartfelt occasion with the Emerald Princess cruise’s crew, organized by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), ProColombia, and the Port of Cartagena Group with the help of its foundation and cruise terminal. During the event, 232 children among the communities of El Zapatero, students of the Institución Educativa Almirante Padilla and several childcare homes received gifts and shared moments of joy and togetherness, lighting up their Christmas spirit. The activity, which included cultural demonstrations and a warm gift-giving celebration, reaffirmed the social compromise between cruise tourism, social development and bringing happiness to the local communities..
5. Discover the White-faced Whistling Duck in Port Oasis EcoPark
The White-faced Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna viduata), also known as “sirirí de la pampa” in in Spanish, is a bird that belongs to the Anatidae family and can is recognized by its characteristic call, “see-ree-ree”. It is around 50 cm long, has a wing span of 90 cm, and can weigh up to 700 g. It can be found primarily in South America and Africa: in South America, it nests in Costa Rica, north-center Argentina and Uruguay, along with the Amazon and Andean regions, where it’s a common sight around the sunset hours.
6. Find coffee with the best aroma in the Colombian Shopping Village
Colombian coffee is recognized worldwide and was granted a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), a symbol of quality and tradition. It’s harvested in specific areas of the country, at heights over 2,000 meters above sea level. This 100% Arabica coffee is characterized by its soft flavor and unsurpassable aroma. It has been certified by the United States since 1981, and acknowledged through the European Union since 2007, consolidating its prestige as one of the most valued Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) in the world.
